FECEF
(Father Ezehi Children’s Education
Fund) inaugurated.
The second visit
of our US Coordinator, Mrs
Susan Weems to us in Nigeria
in July 2006 was great. Our people saw more of the support of Catholic CHESS
Project. A new effort was added as many children of ages 12 and below who
couldn't attend even primary school were given hope. These children could not
be accepted into Holy Family Children's Home because of limited facilities
and also, not all of them are orphans - quite a few of them may have one surviving
but very indigent parent. Some parents' situations in Nigeria are such that they live
"from hand to mouth" and are therefore not able to send their
children to good schools. It has always been part of my dream to help these
children too. And I saw my 10th anniversary as priest and more
importantly, the visit of our US Coordinator, Susan Weems as best occasion
and time to ask God's blessing on this new vision - It has always been Him
acting through us. He has opened another door for us to thread in. Therefore
we inaugurated FECEF (Father Ezehi Children Education Fund) - a new
initiative that also considers these poor and underprivileged children who
are also very much loved by God in our programme. To Him be the Glory!

So it happened
that as part of the activities to mark the 10th priestly ordination
anniversary of Rev. Fr. Dr. JohnBosco Obeahon Ezehi (The Director of Catholic
CHESS Project), Mrs Susan Weems, the US Coordinator of Catholic CHESS who was
also visiting Nigeria and the children at Holy Family the second time, was
given the privilege to inaugurate on behalf of CHESS a new arm of the project
in honour of Fr. JohnBosco Ezehi.
According to Mrs Weems, CHESS Project is
to help not only the orphaned and abandoned children in Nigeria, but also the
underprivileged. The new project which is called FECEF (Father Ezehi Children
Education Fund) is an effort to consider and give the opportunity to truly
needy children of primary age range, approximately up to 12 years the
privilege of nursery and primary education. It is hoped that with the ability
to read, write and know simple math, these children will have a little help
in getting started in life
